Welcome to the King George High School Behind the Wheel Program!
This page provides important information about our Driver Education program, including registration details, requirements, required meetings, and course expectations.
📝 Registration Information
Registration is now open!
To register for Behind the Wheel:
- Complete the registration form in the front office.
- Submit the form and $175 payment to Mr. Reviello or to the front office.
- Payment must be made at the time of registration.
- Payments will be processed upon submission.
If sign-ups are currently closed, check back when registration reopens.
✅ Requirements
To be eligible for Behind the Wheel, students must:
- Have their Learner’s Permit.
- Pass classroom Driver’s Education.
- Have completed at least 25 of their 45 required driving hours.
Behind the Wheel is open to all students, but please note:
- The waitlist is typically 8–12 weeks.
- We cannot guarantee when each student will be scheduled to drive.

👨👩👧 Parent/Teen Meetings
All students enrolled in Driver Education must attend one 90-minute Parent/Teen Meeting with a parent or guardian.
No registration is needed — just arrive on time!
Meeting Dates:
- Tuesday, February 3 – 6:00 PM
- Wednesday, February 25-6:00PM
- Wednesday, March 25 – 6:00 PM
Location: KGHS Auditorium
Important: You must attend the entire session to receive credit.

🏫 About Driver Education
- Driver’s Education is included as part of PE 10, a required course for graduation.
- Students under 18 years of age must pass Driver’s Ed to qualify for a Virginia driver’s license.
- Students may take their Learner’s Permit test at the DMV once they turn 15 years and 6 months old (Driver’s Ed is not required before taking the permit test).
Course Details:
- Students receive 36 hours of classroom instruction covering vehicle operation, safety, and Virginia driving laws.
- Attendance is required for all instructional hours.
- Students and parents must attend one Parent/Teen Meeting to meet course requirements.
📊 Grades and Requirements
Students will see two grades on their report card:
- PE 10 Grade: Based on classroom performance.
- Driver’s Education Grade: “P” for Pass or “F” for Fail.
To successfully complete Driver’s Education, students must:
- Meet the academic grade requirement.
- Complete all required class hours.
- Attend a Parent/Teen Meeting in full.
